End of the Century (2019) dir. Lucio Castro
People make comparisons to Hong Sang-Soo and Antonioni but I feel that Lucio Castro paves entirely new territory with his debut. Unmissable.
The Fifth Seal (1976) dir. Zoltán Fábri
A philosophical masterpiece that should be mentioned alongside Rashomon. Deserves a restoration and a theatrical run!!
Permanent Green Light (2018) dir. Dennis Cooper, Zac Farley
A jarring and transcendently strange experience. The best of any film riding the line between experimental and narrative forms that I've seen.
Violet (2014) dir. Bas Devos
Apichatpong Weerasethakul in the Belgian suburbs. Itching to get my hands on everything else Bas Devos has done.
Ghost Town Anthology (2019) dir. Denis Côté
A tender and slight study of an isolated community, with a minor key of humor. Deserves to be experienced with as little information known about the plot as possible.
Szamanka (1996) dir. Andrzej Zulawski
Just as thrillingly intense as Possession, with twice the crazy.
Dangerous Game (1993) dir. Abel Ferrara
A modern masterpiece with an absolutely transfixing performance by Madonna. Needs to find its audience!!
Mundane History (2009) dir. Anocha Suwichakornpong
Feels like something communicated by aliens for us to decipher in order to understand.... everything?? Play loud.
The Banishment (2007) dir. Andrey Zvyagintsev
Andrey Zvyagintsev's most epic vision, carries mythic weight.
The Mountain (2018) dir. Rick Alverson
My favorite film of 2019. A pitch perfect dissection of America's tower of lies.
